Complex Systems Science: How Do Math And Intuition Help Us Understand Whole Systems?
The human brain may be the ultimate complex system, but other examples appear everywhere. Take army ants. Despite their name, they have no general, and their queen sends out no instructions. No ant is aiming to get across that gully, and there is no blueprint or traffic light. Yet millions of ants, following the same instinctive rules of individual behavior, can build bridges with their bodies and forage for food along vast efficient highways.

Trellis(R) Peripheral Infusion System Removes Blood Clots In Largest Reported Prospective Endovascular DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) Patient Series
Clinical data from a prospective registry presented this week at the 35th Annual Veith Symposium shows DVT treatment with the Trellis(R) Peripheral Infusion System from Bacchus Vascular, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) successfully breaks up the blood clot in most patients in about 20 minutes. This technique, called isolated pharmacomechanical thrombolysis, restores blood flow more quickly and safely than current catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) techniques.

Moisture Sensor with good Accuracy
Hello:
I need t buy a series of moisture sensors that detect whether the soil in a plant module is producing enough conductivity or not. Basically, is it wet or dry? I see that the Botanicalls project posts a schematic but I still see room for error - how accurate is the reading? Can someone suggest an explanation or even another type of DIY moisture sensor? I'm pretty new to this stuff so explaining something in elementary terms would be fabulous.

Thanks.

Step Toward Disease-resistant Crops, Sustainability
A five-year study that could help increase disease resistance, stress tolerance and plant yields is under way. The $4 million project uses a new technique called "mutant-assisted gene identification and characterization," or MAGIC, to identify potentially useful gene combinations in crop species.
