Could Life Have Started In Lump Of Ice? Very Cold Ice Films In Laboratory Reveal Mysteries Of Universe

The universe is full of water, mostly in the form of very cold ice films deposited on interstellar dust particles, but until recently little was known about the detailed small scale structure. Now the latest quick freezing techniques coupled with sophisticated scanning electron microscopy techniques, are allowing physicists to create ice films in cold conditions similar to outer space and observe the detailed molecular organization, yielding clues to fundamental questions including possibly the origin of life.

Snapshots Of Immune System Defense From Protein-Printing Technique
When Albrecht Durer and other Renaissance artists painstakingly etched images onto plates, swabbed ink into the fine grooves and transferred the images to paper with a press, they never could have guessed that centuries later the same technique would uncover the secrets of human cells.

Junk and Salvage Yards in or near Westchester, NY
Folks,

Does anyone have information on Junk or Salvage Yards in and around Westchester County? I've searched a bit and the closest I could find was United House Wrecking in Stamford. A nice place but I was hoping for something more basic and less furniture and home oriented for odds and ends I could use for projects. APEX in California sounds special, but certainly something more in that vein.

More generally, what are the Makers' favorite places in Westchester for project materials?

Thanks.

Powered By Olive Stones? Turning Waste Stones Into Fuel
Olive stones can be turned into bioethanol, a renewable fuel that can be produced from plant matter and used as an alternative to petrol or diesel. This gives the olive processing industry an opportunity to make valuable use of 4 million tons of waste in olive stones it generates every year and sets a precedent for the recycling of waste products as fuels.
