| • | Modeling Ice Cream Production In The Search For Innovation |
| The production of ice cream, a seemingly simple product, brings into play a variety of complex hydrodynamic and thermic processes, with as yet poorly known interactions. To assist industry in making new products, Cemagref scientists have developed a simulator, the size of a yogurt cup, capable of miming the entire production chain. | |

| • | Contamination Of Contact Lens Storage Cases Of Refractive Surgery Candidates |
| Millions of people around the world wear contact lenses, with 24 million wearers in the U.S. alone. While contact lens care is generally very safe, lenses that are not properly cleaned and disinfected increase the risk of severe eye infection. Any lens that is removed from the eye needs to be cleaned and disinfected before it is reinserted. Care of contact lenses includes cleaning the storage case, since it is a potential source of infection. | |

| • | Minneapolis/Saint Paul area makers |
|
Hey all, I was wondering if there are any maker in the twin cities area that would be interested in being able to goto a place that regularly stocked surplus lab equipment, test equipment, electronics components, as well as other odd ball stuff. I know that ax-man currently covers some of this market, however if and when they have things like test equipment it tends to be in poor shape, over priced, or both (dont get me wrong, i love that place, but thats been my experience) The reason I ask is that I work for a company that is looking into selling surplus (which we already have in inventory) and my fellow makers have always struck me as a viable market for this stuff (I know I end up taking a lot home...) So either way, please post your response. Thanks Michael |

| • | Being Unique Has Advantages: 'Rareness' Key To Some Insects Being Favored By Evolution |
| As the saying goes -- blondes have more fun, but in the world of insects it may actually be the rare "redheads" that have the last laugh ... at least in terms of evolution. A new study has discovered that genetic variation in an asexual insect -- insects that reproduce by cloning themselves -- is maintained by rare clones being chosen for the next generation, a phenomenon known as frequency-dependent selection. | |
