Welcome to Monocular Compound Microscope

When Anton van Leeuwenhoek first developed the microscope, it only had one lens which was then called a simple microscope. As Leeuwenhoek first used his modified microscope, he was the first one to see bacteria from the sample that he took from their pond, the circulation of blood in our veins and also the yeasts. Thanks to Leeuwenhoek, there is whole new world opened to us, the microscopic world. Although there was a drawback in using the microscope before for the reason that those early microscopes had limited magnification power in spite of how it was built or what it looks like, still it proved to be useful in those times. Microscope before were only used by scientist and researchers, but now, microscope like the simple compound microscope is now used in educational facilities like in schools, laboratories, and even by people who would just like to enjoy learning about the microscopic world of bacteria’s and viruses.

The monocular compound microscope is your ordinary microscope that has a single eyepiece, has three objective lenses, a base, an arm, power switch, diaphragm, stage, nosepiece, coarse adjustment knob, stage clips and other accessories an ordinary microscope has. The monocular compound microscope uses light to illuminate the specimen on its stage, the light passes. A two dimensional image can be seen when using a monocular compound microscope. This type of microscope is commonly used in school, where you can view the solitary cell specimen, even the living cells can be used. When placing the specimen on the stage, you would have to make sure that the specimen is properly held in place by stage clips. You can adjust the distance of the objective lenses and your specimen by adjusting through the course adjustment knob. In order for you to use different magnitude of objectives, you would have to revolve its nosepiece to a higher objective lens, but when revolving the nosepiece, you should make sure that the objective lens is not to close to the specimen slide or else it will hit the slide and damage it. Then you would have to adjust again the distance between the specimen and the objective lens by the course adjustment knob. The specimens that are commonly used in the school’s laboratories are animal and plant cells for lower years, and for college students depend on their course, the one’s having the subject of microbiology uses bacteria’s as specimens.
